In collaboration with its French partner Altrad, Adiabatix is executing a major delivery for EDF, one of the world’s largest energy companies. The project involves Adiabatix’s RMI (Reflective Metallic Insulation) solution, which will be supplied to 20 nuclear reactors across France. The first deliveries are scheduled for 2025, with the project set for completion by the end of 2030.

The largest project in Adiabatix’s history is progressing according to plan. The generic design phase has been completed, and the final steps are pending approval. The detailed design is expected to be finalized by early spring 2025, with production starting in the summer and the first deliveries scheduled for the end of the year 2025.

To support the project’s successful execution, Adiabatix has made significant strides, including securing 1,700 m² of new production space and growing its workforce, with additional positions set to open in the future. Production for the new project is scheduled to continue through 2029.

“I have been particularly pleased to see the enthusiasm and dedication our team has shown toward this project. The seamless collaboration within our team, combined with the strong day-to-day partnership with our main project partner, Altrad, has been a key factor in our success so far”, says Project Manager Matias Wainio.

Comprehensive Planning and Quick Adaptability

While a typical project spans only a few months, a 5-year project requires a completely different level of foresight and preparation. Adiabatix proactively anticipates all scenarios, developing comprehensive plans for every stage and possibility. At times, quick adaptability is essential: during the generic design phase, Adiabatix’s team successfully enhanced EDF’s insulation solution by making it lighter to meet specific weight requirements.

“We strive to ensure that unforeseen challenges are minimized. With this preparation and with each successful step forward, we maintain full control of the project’s progress, enabling us to deliver with full confidence.”

International Interest

The project is not only significant in terms of extent, but also in terms of quality requirements. Nuclear power plants are some of the most demanding environments in the world. Both Adiabatix and their suppliers must meet the highest standards of competence and performance, hold all necessary certifications, and provide exceptionally detailed and comprehensive documentation for every work phase and material.

“The requirements regarding nuclear power plants are something not everyone can meet. Our extensive experience in nuclear power projects dates back to the 90s, which, combined with a highly skilled and efficient team and partner network, equips us to successfully execute the project. The ongoing project has garnered international interest in our operations, which we are delighted to see. We look forward to advancing to the next stages of the project”, Wainio concludes.
